    Pied_billed Grebe-Podilymbus podiceps
Pied_billed Grebe-Podilymbus podiceps, Family Poicipedidae. Superficially similar to loons with lobed toes. Dive for animals to eat. This bird "crashed landed" into the water (like a commorant) and proceeded to disappear from view (I never saw it come back up for air!). While ungainly above water, they are known to be excellent and agile swimmers underwtaer. Found in Acton Lake in Heuston Woods State park in SW Ohio. (Photo: March 6, 2004).
