Northern Harrier Northern Harrier- Circus cyaneus Northern Harrier- Circus cyaneus, Family Acciptridae. A diurnal raptor. Here, a northern harrier is hunting in the Shaker Trace Wetlands in the Miami Whitewater Forest area in SW Ohio. Typically seen coursing low over fields or marshes. The "white rump" is a dead giveaway. Feeds on small birds and mammals. Note: This birds throat looks full to me! (Photo: March 7, 2004)
