TROPIC and NEAR-TROPIC BIRD COLLECTION

Pair Ruddy Ducks Ruddy Duck- Oxyura jamaicensis Ruddy Ducks- Oxyura jamaicensis, Order Anseriformes-Family Anatidae-Subfamily Anatinae. A photo first for me. A pair of Ruddy Ducks were cruising near the boat launch in Acton Lake in Heuston Woods State Park north of Oxford, Ohio. These ducks are often referred as "stiff-tailed ducks." It was a cold, cloudy, mid-February day. The male is on the right, the female on the left. Note: I also spotted an immature Bald Eagle on the farside of the lake. By the time I got my photo gear ready, it had flown out-of-sight!
