Lichen Nuthatch Pose
White-breasted Nuthatch- Sitta carolinensis
| White-breasted Nuthatch- Sitta carolinensis. Family Sittidae, the nuthatches. This fellow is in a typical "nuthatch pose." Small, stout tree climbers with strong, woodpecker like bills, strong feet. Can be seen going down trees headfirst. This species has an easily recognizable black cap and jet black eye on a white face. Year long resident. This fellow was busy patrolling the trees in Hamilton, Ohio on a cold Christmas eve.
