    Killdeer- Charadrius vociferus

Killdeer- Charadrius vociferus, Order CHARADRIIFORMES - Family CHARADRIIDAE - Subfamily Charadriinae. "The most widespread and familiar of plovers. Very common in farmlands, fields, and even parking lots. The broken-wing act used to lead predators from the nest would not keep a cow or horse from stepping on the eggs. To guard against large hoofed animals, the Killdeer uses a quite different display, fluffing itself up, displaying its tail over its head, and running at the beast to attempt to make it change its path." This bird was found in the Brookville Reservoir area in extreme western Indiana near the Ohio border. (Photo: April 10, 2004, Canon 10D, EF 300mm f/4.0L IS USM, 1.4x teleconverter EF ll lens )
