    In-Flight Mallards

    Mallard-Anas platyrhynchos
    Mallard-Anas platyrhynchos, Order ANSERIFORMES - Family ANATIDAE - Subfamily Anatinae. One of our most familiar ducks, found thorughout North America. The mallard is the ancestor of nealy all domestic breeds. These were found flying above Acton Lake in Heuston Woods State Park in SW Ohio in early March. Males have the green head, females dull brown all over. (Photo: March 2, 2004)
