    American Goldfinch
    Full Size Image = 957 K
    Male American Goldfinch- Carduelis tristis
American Goldfinch- Carduelis tristis, Family Fringillidae-includes grosbeaks, finches and buntings. Sexes similar and drab in winter. Really brighten up in the summer. A beautiful bird (small canary-like bird). In SW Ohio, may have Canadian birds in the winter and Florida birds in the summer. One of the great reasons to leave dandelions! Love thistle. Like small seeds. Love flower gardens in the summer. (photo: Jan/Feb, 2004)
