    A Bufflehead Chase
    Full Size Image = 1957 K
    Buffleheads- Bucephala albeola
Buffleheads- Bucephala albeola, Family Anatidae, Subfamily Anatinae. The males have a large whitepatch on their heads. The females "white patch"is less distinct. On this late February day, males were courting females. It was impressive! "They typically nest in tree cavities. The smallest diving duck in North America." These birds were found in the Shaker Trace Wetlands in the Miami Whitewater Forest area in SW Ohio. The wetlands only had a few waterfowl present.
