Found in the woods along the eastern boundary of the Edge of the Farm Nature Reserve in a cluster of Chinquapin and Red Oaks. Note the lichens.
The terminal and lateral buds often prominent. Produces small acorns. Tree is monoecious (both male and female flowers on the same tree). Mature Chinquapin Oak bark develops ridges that develop into light gray blocks separated by deep furrows. Leaves are alternate, shiny, with crenate margins.
