A huge Bitternut Hickory in the flod plain ajacent to McCummins Creek just east of the large Hackberry.
No Shag! Tight furrows and flat bark pattern. Bitternut hickories have the smoothest bark of all hickories. The most diagnostic feature is its SUPLHUR YELLOW Buds. Fruits of the bitternut hickory are not edible. A member of the walnut family. Can be confused with an Ash tree, but, bitternut leaves are alternate. Ash tree leave are opposite.
